Lisa Call: Studio News
December 2008 - Vol 1, Issue 4
Welcome

My new studio, insulated and waiting for drywall

Happy New Year!

As you can see from the photo above, the construction on my studio is progressing quickly. The drywall arrived today and I think within a few months I'll be making art in my dream studio.

I haven't had as much studio time over the last few months with the construction in full force but I've still been keeping active focusing on some smaller textile paintings and have several to share.

A description of my gentler approach to the annual event of setting New Year's resolutions is included below as well as the winner of my first newsletter subscriber giveaway is announced.

I hope you enjoy this issue, and as usual, thank you for subscribing and supporting my art and sharing my journey.

---lisa

As the construction on my studio addition and home remodel are in progress, I have been inspired to start a new series that asks the question - what makes a house a home? I've titled the series simply Home.

I don't anticipate making very many of these simple stick figure houses as I prefer my abstract big art but I'm having fun with the small pieces while the house in a bit of a disarray.

I made this textile painting today, December 31, so it's fresh off the presses for my newsletter subscribers to see.

Setting Intention for the Year

Last year instead of making New Year's resolutions or setting forth a long list of specific goals to achieve, I decided to take the advice of Christine Kane, and instead set my intention by selecting a single word to guide me through the year.

The word I chose was Courage. The year has been an adventure, from selling my large suburban home, to buying a tiny little fixer-upper house and now building my dream studio and turning that house into a home.

It's was with my trusty word courage at my side I was able to quickly make decisions and act upon them to bring all of this about.

I wrote a long guest post on Christine Kane's blog that journals my travels in 2008 from a life I wasn't happy with to where I am today, living life big and loving my experiences. You can read my entire journey here: Lisa's Courage Odyssey.

I loved the results of using a single word to guide me through 2008 so I have selected 2 new words to guide me through 2009 (one didn't seem like quite enough). My words for 2009 are Expansion and Integrity.

I have big plans for my life and as I expand in those new directions I intend to do it authenticity and by honoring my values. Stay tuned over the next year to see how these words help to guide me.

What word will guide you through 2009?

Small Art for Sale

Over the last few months I've been experimenting with mounting my small textile paintings onto canvas. These resulted in my second new series of the year - Lines. They are very similar to both my Structures and my Markings series and have proven to be very popular with my blog readers.

To aid in the sale of these textile paintings with minimal hassle to everyone I've set up a webpage with my smaller artwork for sale directly to the public via paypal here: My Small Art For Sale. If you don't do paypal you can also contact me via email and I can reserve a painting for you to be paid by check.

Shown here is a selection of the newest pieces available for purchase at the writing of this newsletter. For a complete view of what's available check the website. And if you are curious I've also set up a page with all the pieces that have recently sold.

If nothing here catches your eye, check out my page of Recently Sold Small Art. Maybe I can make you something similar. I don't do commissions but I can make something in a choosen color scheme and if you like it, you are welcome to buy it, if not I will keep it and add it to my page. Structures #106 on the recently sold page was a result of such an arrangement.

As announced on my blog, I decided to give away Structures #83 to one of my studio newsletter subscribers. A few minutes ago I asked my followers on twitter to pick a random number for me. Angela Heath's subscriber number (18) was selected first and she is the lucky new owner of this textile painting.

According to pantone yellow is going to be one of the hot new colors for 2009, so Angela will be ahead of the game.

Thank you to all of you for subscribing to my studio newsletter - I very much appreciate the support.
