Welcome
|
|
Welcome and thank you all for your interest in my artwork. It's been a year of dreaming and planning and researching my studio newsletter.
And replanning and being flexible. Clarifying my goals and through it all not losing sight of my intention.
And now I'm happy to introduce you to my first studio newsletter.

New Work
|
Structures #74
©2007
62" x 67"
|
This piece is one of the most recent additions to my Structures series. The fence motif is nearly lost as I move towards openness and simplicity.
|
|
This detail image shows the surface stitching fairly close to actual size. The entire surface of the textile painting is covered with parallel stitched lines about 1/8 to 3/16 inches apart.
Although adding the intense texture takes a significant amount of time I love every minute of it, as I find the process soothing and meditative.

Setting Intent
|
|
Recently I came across a description of what it means to set intent that resonated with me:
Setting intent is a way of connecting a goal in the future with motivation in the present. Intent directs energy and attention towards the future. It is a filter for experience, causing the subconscious to work towards the goal. The focus of the intent could be anything from achieving a goal to having a great day. -Becky Herndon
This year I've been practicing setting intent on several levels, some examples:
- Each morning before beginning my day I journal about my intent for the day. I think about and write about how I want the day to go. If I have a big event (or even small) I write about how I want the event to go, what I want to out of participating and how I want to show up for the event.
- As I drive home from work each day I set my intent for how the evening will go. I think about what I want to do and all the energy I will have in completing the work. If I have plans to spend time with other people I think about how I want to be when with them.
- Before my solo show opened in Boulder in February I talked about, wrote about and thought about how I wanted the opening reception to be. I focused on having a wonderful time and being a peace when it was over and that is exactly what happened.
I've found that the more I set intent the more my life reflects the things I want. Slowing down to think about how I want things to be and why I'm doing things, instead of rushing from activity to activity, has really helped me show up for life in a more positive way.
The past few months I've written several articles on my blog about things I do to help me hold my intention. In many way the things I'm doing are also the things I do to reach my goals. Intention also goes deeper and is about who I want to be. Here are links to the current articles in this series. Look for more in the coming months.

Artist Trading Cards from the Markings Series
|
|
The following 3 ACEOs or Artist Trading Cards were inspired by my Markings Series. I rarely work small and still find it a challenge but every time I try I enjoy the process and the results more. Instead of squaring off this set of art cards to exactly 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" I decided to go with a more organic shape, as I do in my larger work. So they are closer to 3 3/4" x 2 5/8" in size.
These new ACEOs are available for sale exclusively to my newsletter subscribers during the first week of April. If you are interested in purchasing one of the art cards please email me to ask about availability. The cost is $20 USD each and includes postage. [Update - all ACEOs have been sold]
The cards are signed and dated on the back and the 1/1 indicates they are one of a kind originals. I will never make additional copies of these cards.
ACEO stands for "art cards, editions and originals". Originally known as ATC, Artist Trading Card, and are traded between artists. When sold to the public they are referred to as ACEOs. The primary rule for an ACEO or ATC is they be 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" - the size of a trading card. They are created in many different mediums and are collectible, trade able and affordable art for everyone.
