Joanie San Chirico
Toms River, New Jersey, United States
I integrate my love of the stitch with my fascination with the past. My work depicts ancient ruins in various degrees of abstraction or landscape elements forming a breakdown of the ruins into elemental fragments.
I use various pigments, disperse and natural dyes, stitching and manipulation of cloth, paper and paint to achieve the illusion of a patina of age.
I am a full time studio artist with an extensive exhibition record, awards and my work is held in numerous public and private collections. In addition to commissions and exhibitions, I am an independent curator who has created exhibits of contemporary fiber art in New Jersey and New York City.
